    <title>Grand County Historical Association</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/7/Grand-County-Historical-Association</link>
    <description>The Grand Foundation is proud to highlight the Grand County Historical Association (GCHA), a longstanding steward of our community&amp;rsquo;s past and a direct contributor to the county&amp;rsquo;s cultural and educational vitality. Through the operation of four unique museums, GCHA protects the stories, artifacts, and historic structures that define Grand County&amp;rsquo;s identity while creating meaningful educational opportunities for both residents and visitors.

This year, GCHA received support from the Board of County Commissioners, the Towns of Granby, Fraser, Winter Park, and Grand Lake grants, and through the Grand Foundation&amp;rsquo;s Annual Grant program.

&amp;ldquo;These funds are appreciated and utilized to continue to operate and maintain our four museums, as well as contributing to our ability to provide programming that benefits not only the local community, but visitors as well,&amp;rdquo; says Executive Director Shanna Ganne.

We are proud our funding supports preservation efforts, and ensures that historic collections, and environments remain protected and accessible. Grand Foundation dollars also helped sustain year-round programming, expanding opportunities for schools, families, and heritage tourism participants to connect with local history. With more than 5,000 residents and visitors served, GCHA continues to offer a powerful reminder that history is not only worth saving, but also worth experiencing. Their work strengthens community identity, contributes to local tourism, and ensures that historic spaces and stories remain alive for future generations.

The Grand Foundation is honored to support partners like the Grand County Historical Association who enrich Grand County not just by preserving its past, but by inspiring its present and shaping a more informed and connected future.

    <title>The Gift of Giving: How to make giving back an effortless part of daily life</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/20/The-Gift-of-Giving-How-to-make-giving-back-an-effortless-part-of-daily-life</link>
    <description>Sometimes it takes a big event&amp;mdash;like the pandemic, or the East Troublesome Fire&amp;mdash;to help us see how much we need each other as a community, and how much every gift, donation, or volunteer hour can make an impact. Sometimes it&amp;#39;s just the warmth of the holidays and the gratitude it stirs in us that prompts us to give.

However, giving is something that can enrich not just others&amp;#39; lives but also our own lives every single day. Studies have long shown that giving makes us feel good. Helping others raises our endorphin levels, reduces our stress, and promotes longevity.

Here&amp;#39;s how to make giving a regular part of your daily life.

Get to know the impact of your giving.&amp;nbsp;

Writing a check can feel meaningless when you don&amp;#39;t understand how or where your funds are used. But when you realize that you&amp;#39;re helping plant trees on a burned mountainside, filling a hungry child&amp;#39;s backpack with nutritious food for the weekend, or helping a small business keep its doors open, then donations become more rewarding and meaningful. The Grand Foundation annual report outlines in detail how monies are spent and what that support looks like in the community.

Start small and be consistent.&amp;nbsp;

Gifts don&amp;#39;t have to be monumental to be impactful, and in fact, giving more regularly increases the feel-good effects of giving. A weekly gift of $5 can add up to a substantial gift in a year for many of our smaller organizations and funding initiatives.

Make it automatic.

Digital wallet apps like Paypal as well as automatic and online banking options make giving easy and painless. Regular contributions make it easier for organizations to count on and receive funds without hosting costly fundraisers or expensive marketing initiatives. You can set up a regular monthly donation to the Grand Foundation here.

Consider non-cash gifts.&amp;nbsp;

If your plan for giving is about leaving a legacy, the Grand Foundation can help create lasting change with your gifts of old life insurance policies, real estate, and other assets.&amp;nbsp;

Share your passion.&amp;nbsp;

We tend to share generously in support of causes that are meaningful to us personally. Whether it&amp;#39;s a love of open spaces, independent businesses, the arts, or helping kids and families thrive, you can support those specific passions by making a restricted gift with the Grand Foundation to earmark your donation.

Re-think what giving looks like.&amp;nbsp;

You don&amp;#39;t have to take out your checkbook to give gifts that make an impact. Donating goods or items, volunteering your time, attending a charity event, or even buying a Grand Pass (with access to skiing, golfing, summer activities, and more) all help support the Grand Foundation.

Reflect with gratitude.&amp;nbsp;

Reflecting with appreciation on all the good in your life will impact your generosity&amp;mdash;grateful people have been shown to be more helpful, kind, supportive, and altruistic. Start and end your day by jotting down just three things you are grateful for in a notebook and your sense of wellbeing and altruism will soar.

Don&amp;#39;t save giving just for certain times of the year or major events&amp;mdash;tapping into our generous nature not only improves our community and the lives of others but our own lives as well. For giving opportunity ideas, visit our giving page.

    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/28/Support-the-Grand-Foundation-When-You-File-Your-Taxes</link>
    <description>Colorado has turned tax time into a new season of giving. The Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit program allows you to use your state income tax return to make a big difference in our community.

If you&amp;rsquo;re due a state income tax refund, this ReFund program gives you the opportunity to gift some or all of it directly to the Grand Foundation or a participating nonprofit of your choice. All you have to do is:

 Decide how much of your state income tax refund to donate (all or a portion of it).
 Enter the Grand Foundation as the recipient and&amp;nbsp;our registration number 20053008820 in the Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit Fund line on your state tax return or tax software.
 Or provide this information to your tax advisor when they are preparing your tax documents.

Colorado is one of the few states in which you can claim charitable giving on your state tax return. The Colorado Tax Incentive for Charitable Giving says that taxpayers who have claimed the basic standard deduction on their federal return, and therefore can&amp;#39;t benefit from a federal itemized deduction for charitable contributions, can take a subtraction on their Colorado return.

With the new Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit program, you can put that state return right back into a charitable donation for this year! Giving starts close to home, so ReFund&amp;nbsp;what matters to you!

    <title>4 Selfless Resolutions for the New Year </title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/29/4-Selfless-Resolutions-for-the-New-Year</link>
    <description>
Most New Year&amp;#39;s resolutions are self-directed and about 80% of them fail by February. On the other hand, research has shown that selfless giving can enhance happiness and improve your health. Maybe the key to sticking to your 2020 aspirations is creating resolutions that are more altruistic. Try giving part of this New Year to a cause that is bigger than yourself! Here are four selfless resolutions you can make in the New Year:

Go Green

You can help our environment in your own small but impactful ways. Resolve to recycle, carry around your reusable grocery bags, donate old clothing instead of throwing it away, etc. You don&amp;rsquo;t have to make life-altering changes to take part in healing our environment and reduce your carbon footprint. The Grand Foundation is committed to back a number of nonprofits that support our environment. If you want to go the extra (green) mile, you can donate to a fund that supports the environment or volunteer for an environmental nonprofit.

Volunteer

Committing to giving just a small percentage of your time this year to a cause you believe in can make a huge difference, both for your feelings of fulfilment and for the nonprofit you&amp;rsquo;re supporting. Maybe you resolve to volunteer on a monthly basis or choose a set number of events to volunteer for this year. You can visit grandvolunteers.org to find volunteer opportunities in Grand County. Our nonprofits value your helping hands!

Give Blood

Most of us have more blood then we need and can save lives by donating a little excess. Did you know we can physically donate blood every 56 days? Even just resolving to give blood once in 2020 could save up to three lives and 4.5 million&amp;nbsp;Americans will a need blood transfusion each year. You may have to head down the hill and into the city but you can find blood drives through the American Red Cross.

Donate

Whether you have a little to give or a lot, you can make a huge difference in 2020, and feel good about doing so. Donations to our Grand County community help improve the quality of life for all of our residents. Perhaps you are extremely passionate about a cause in our community. An amazing 2020 resolution could be establishing a Donor Advised Fund to earmark your donation towards your cause. You can learn more here.

&amp;nbsp;

Happy New Year, Grand County!

    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/30/Four-Holiday-Swaps-you-Can-Make-to-Give-Back-to-Your-Community</link>
    <description>
Giving back to the community around you is a great way to&amp;nbsp;bring holiday cheer to&amp;nbsp;you and your loved ones.&amp;nbsp;We often don&amp;rsquo;t realize the small sacrifices we can make, especially around the holidays, to make a big difference for those in need. Feel fulfilled while making other&amp;rsquo;s days merry and bright by&amp;nbsp;making some of these simple substitutions in your&amp;nbsp;holiday&amp;nbsp;tradition.&amp;nbsp;Create new, impactful traditions this holiday season.&amp;nbsp;You&amp;rsquo;ll be amazed at how much giving back feels like a gift to yourself!&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

&amp;nbsp;

Instead of&amp;nbsp;A Holiday&amp;nbsp;Party-&amp;gt; Volunteer Your Time&amp;nbsp;

Holiday parties require a lot of planning and can cost a great deal of money. The upside is that these&amp;nbsp;occasions&amp;nbsp;are a great time to bond with friends and loved ones. So why not bond with your group while&amp;nbsp;lending a helping hand in your Grand community?&amp;nbsp;Give the gift of&amp;nbsp;your time to a local Grand County nonprofit. You can see and sign up for volunteer opportunities at&amp;nbsp;grandvolunteers.org.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

&amp;nbsp;

Instead of&amp;nbsp;Giving Gifts-&amp;gt;&amp;nbsp;Donate&amp;nbsp;to a&amp;nbsp;Nonprofit&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

Propose to your&amp;nbsp;family&amp;nbsp;the idea of&amp;nbsp;giving&amp;nbsp;donations instead of swapping trinkets this holiday season.&amp;nbsp;Donate&amp;nbsp;to a nonprofit that supports something your family or friend is passionate about, Make it easy by&amp;nbsp;donating&amp;nbsp;to the Grand Foundation&amp;nbsp;for all your loved ones and earmark each donation for a specific cause. Not sure what your loved one is passionate about? The Grand Foundation&amp;nbsp;will make sure your generous gift is distributed where our community needs&amp;nbsp;it the most.&amp;nbsp;Your donations&amp;nbsp;make a positive impact in our community by improving the quality of life and addressing the current and future needs of residents in Grand County.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

&amp;nbsp;

Instead of&amp;nbsp;Receiving Gifts -&amp;gt; A Donation on Your Behalf&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

You can also make it known,&amp;nbsp;to those you&amp;#39;re aware have YOU on their&amp;nbsp;giving&amp;nbsp;list,&amp;nbsp;that you would like a donation made to your community&amp;nbsp;or favorite nonprofit&amp;nbsp;on your behalf. A great way to do this is&amp;nbsp;by&amp;nbsp;setting up a fundraiser&amp;nbsp;on Facebook to raise money for the Grand Foundation&amp;nbsp;or a community nonprofit. You can create a fundraising goal and let your Facebook friends know how they can also make a difference this holiday season. You&amp;rsquo;ll be filled with joy when you reach your goal. Even better than unwrapping a present!&amp;nbsp;Take it the next level and offer to match their donations.&amp;nbsp;

&amp;nbsp;

Instead of&amp;nbsp;Going to the Mall -&amp;gt; Shop on Amazon Smile&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

Many of us probably already opt for online shopping over commuting to crowded malls with little parking. But did you know you can support the Grand Foundation while you do your holiday shopping on Amazon?&amp;nbsp;When you&amp;nbsp;shop on AmazonSmile,&amp;nbsp;you can designate a&amp;nbsp;portion of the proceeds to&amp;nbsp;go to&amp;nbsp;the&amp;nbsp;charitable organization of your choice. Consider&amp;nbsp;supporting the Grand Foundation&amp;nbsp;if you order gifts this season.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

We hope our Grand County residents and visitors alike enjoy a happy, safe and meaningful holiday!&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

    <title>Giving Season in Grand County</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/31/Giving-Season-in-Grand-County</link>
    <description>Thanksgiving is right around the corner and we all start to think about things we are thankful for. And boy do we have a lot to be thankful for here in Grand County! The plethora of outdoor activities, the beautiful scenery, and many amazing nonprofits that support our community. But many of us in Grand County are far from loved ones. The peace and serenity of living in the mountains is what we seek out, but it can get lonely around the holidays. Here are 6 ways to still enjoy Thanksgiving without family in town.

If You Can&amp;rsquo;t Spend Thanksgiving with Loved Ones..

Have a Friendsgiving

Your friends may be in the same situation as you, with family far away. Friends make a great, or sometimes better, substitute for family and allow you to still enjoy turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and a good conversation. Put together a &amp;ldquo;Friendsgiving&amp;rdquo; and have everyone bring their favorite dish that reminds them of the holiday. Who knows? Maybe that will become your new tradition!

Give Back to Your Community

There are many organizations that could use a helping hand serving others this holiday. Help the less fortunate enjoy full bellies on Thanksgiving by volunteering for a Grand County nonprofit. Spending your time giving to others will make you feel good when you can&amp;rsquo;t eat a Thanksgiving meal with your family.

Facetime or Phone Call

Many of us have video chat capabilities on our smart phones or computers, allowing us to still see our loved ones&amp;rsquo; faces from hundreds of miles away. If you can&amp;rsquo;t be with your family, chat with them while they are cooking so it feels like you are part of the kitchen tradition. If you don&amp;rsquo;t have video chat, hearing your family&amp;rsquo;s voice with a good old fashioned phone call is bound to warm the heart on Turkey Day.

Make a List of Things You Are Thankful For

If missing loved ones on Thanksgiving has you down, make a list of all of the things in your life you are grateful for. After all, that&amp;rsquo;s what the holiday is about,&amp;nbsp;giving thanks!

Go Skiing!

We live in a community with&amp;nbsp;award-winning ski resort and have the rare opportunity to go skiing on holidays, when the resorts are usually much less busy. Who needs turkey when you&amp;rsquo;re flying down wide open runs at Winter Park or Ski Granby Ranch? Hitting the slopes will truly make for a Colorado Thanksgiving.

Colorado Gives Day

Every December, Coloradans come together with the common goal of strengthening the community by helping to power nonprofits. Colorado Gives Day has grown to be the state&amp;#39;s largest one-day online giving event, raising more than $217 million since it began in 2010. Celebrate with us by getting in the giving spirit. To donate to one of our amazing Grand County nonprofits on Colorado Gives Day, simply visit coloradogives.org/grandcountygives and select the nonprofit of your choice. Then, choose your donation amount and fill out the short form. Community First Foundation &amp;amp; FirstBank generously provide&amp;nbsp;a $1.5 million Incentive Fund, so every nonprofit receiving your donation on Colorado Gives Day will receive a portion of the fund, increasing the value of every dollar donated. For example, if a nonprofit organization receives 10 percent of the total amount of money raised on Colorado Gives Day, that same nonprofit receives 10 percent of the $1.5 Million Incentive Fund. You can make a huge difference in our community!&amp;nbsp;Donations may be scheduled as early as November 1st. The Grand Foundation is thankful for your support!

    <title>Learning to Give:  Youth Making a Difference</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/42/Learning-to-Give-Youth-Making-a-Difference</link>
    <description>What do a public mural project, the purchase of life-saving medical devices, and maintaining a safe and healthy preschool environment have in common? A funding fairy godmother in the form &amp;nbsp;of local teens doing good.&amp;nbsp;

The Middle Park High School Student Philanthropy Fund is an entirely student-run fund dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Grand County. Although that mission may seem broad, the fund awards sizable grants of $2,000 per applicant to recipients in each of the following specific categories: arts and culture, health and human services, environment, education, and amateur sports.&amp;nbsp;

Students evaluate prospective grantees and applications, choosing projects that show sustainability and efficacy. This year&amp;rsquo;s recipients included the Granby Chamber of Commerce, for their Main Street Art Festival/mural project; Headwater Trails Alliance, for hiring and training a high school field projects intern; Grand County Search and Rescue, for the purchase of 50 pulse oximeters; the Granby Rec Department, to purchase supplies for a blacklight volleyball court; and Granby Playdays Preschool, to fund improvements needed in their utility room.

&amp;ldquo;Without these funds, we would not be able to fund an internship position,&amp;rdquo; says Meara McQuain, executive director of the Headwater Trails Alliance, a 2019 recipient. &amp;ldquo;We&amp;rsquo;ll be able to accomplish more trail work, trail user education and train the local workforce. Because this money came from the youth community, we felt it was very important to use it to fund a youth position&amp;mdash;we wanted to be able to give back and provide opportunities for them as well. We feel like it&amp;rsquo;s a total win-win-win.&amp;rdquo;

It&amp;rsquo;s not just Grand County residents who benefit from the fund&amp;mdash;the teens who give reap positive outcomes, too. Evidence shows that kids who perform acts of kindness experienced increased well-being and acceptance among peers, setting them up for personal success. And that habit of charitable giving helps students learn about needs and people beyond their own experiences and world views, as well as fosters important life skills&amp;mdash;research, decision-making, fundraising and entrepreneurial skills, and empathy.&amp;nbsp;

    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/52/NorthWest-CO-Center-for-Independence</link>
    <description>The Youth in Transition started in the fall of 2014 under the experience leadership of Lisa Atencio, Special Education PARA of Middle Park High School in partnership with Mary Housley, Independent LIving Coordinator of NorthWest CO Center for Independence. Both persons being new in their positions. The original objectives were to establish the program, invite all student with IEP to learn about the program and to choose to participate in the programs offerings.

The fall of 2015 began our second year of the program. Parents and families were then learning of opportunities for their MPHS students. This developing Youth in Transition served 10 students and their families in gaining meaningful employment and/or volunteer work experiences. Lisa provided approximately 20 different class offerings geared towards reaching the Individualized Educational Plan goals of each actively participating YT Students. Such programming engages students to guide and direct their individualized plans based upon their needs and interests. Planned activities were then created to engage students academically, socially/emotionally, job and life experiences fostering healthy adult independent living skills. 8 of the 10 participants are now actively employed, furthering their education or volunteering in the community gaining valuable work and life experiences.

Grand Foundation Emergency Grant

Thanks to an emergency grant from the Grand Foundation NorthWest CO Center for Independence(NWCCI) in partnership with Middle Park Medical Center (MPMC) hosted the 6 week Diabetes Management Class In the fall of 2015, facilitated by Dietitian, Jean Anderson and nurse, Jan Carusco. 3 active participants graduated from the class. This was the first time a class was hosted for persons at or below the poverty threshold in Grand County. Such classes are usually attended by the affluent families who can afford the out of pocket expense. This class instructed on foods to eat, the macronutrients and when to eat them, especially carbohydrates, serving sizes, myPlate recommendations and other physiological conditions related to diabetes to watch for. Participants received incentives for their weekly participation.

This class bridged a relationship between the MPMC Dietitian and persons living in poverty who otherwise would not be able to attend without scholarship assistance. It was observed that persons with diabetes dependent upon monthly food bank had a very difficult time finding foods low in sugar and carbohydrates, especially fresh fruits and vegetables.

Six months after the completion of the class, one participant has reduced their A1C from 9.1 to 7.4, the second participant (64year old) had passed away from long term health issues. The third participant has now lost over 65 pounds and is reducing his risk for diabetes.

    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/54/Mountain-Family-Center</link>
    <description>Mountain Family Center (MFC) has seen extraordinary growth over the last three and half years. Grand Foundation has been instrumental in helping this 36-year-old organization make such significant strides with a goal to better serve our community. By providing educational resources, assistance in incorporating new budget concepts, board development to providing new revenue and grant resources, Grand Foundation has helped MFC broaden its scope of work to incorporate its mission at even a higher performance level. In 2015, MFC counted over 4,925 food pantry visits and touched more than 1,800 unique individuals. Our community foundation, helped make that possible. Thank you Grand Foundation!

    <description>The all-volunteer team of Grand Angels and our NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS program greatly appreciates the financial support Grand Foundation has provided us through grants over the last 5 years. These matching grants for our Loaves and Fish fundraiser helped us raise almost $200,000 positioning us to feed and/or lend a hand up to over 4,000 neighbors.

Helping to Make Grand County GRAND!

In addition to the financial support, the guidance and encouragement they have provided mean the world to this all volunteer team. All that we have come in contact in our dealings with Grand Foundation are professional, experienced, caring, responsive and a great asset to Grand County. Thank you for being there for us and for helping make Grand County even more GRAND. Keep up the good work and happy 20th and best wishes for many more to come!

    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/56/Grand-County-EMS</link>
    <description>Wow!, is the first thing that comes to mind knowing how the Grand Foundation has improved education for the High School EMT students. The grant funding support from the Grand Foundation and East Grand Education Foundation allowed Grand County EMS Education Division to purchase high fidelity training manikins providing realistic hands-on training. Additionally, GCEMS has been able to introduce an innovative approach designed for the millennial&amp;rsquo;s using Reflective Learning Feedback.

The Grand Foundation and the East Grand Education Foundation commitment for improving education for our community&amp;rsquo;s high school students is working in collaboration with the vision of Grand County EMS. The High School EMT course is thriving as it enters its 11th year because of the grant support from the Grand Foundation and East Grand Education Foundation. The Class of 2016 added to the number of high school seniors who have attended the High School EMT course total to 140. Grand County EMS is a community service achieving success with the aid and support of the Grand Foundation.

The Grand County EMS team is grateful and thankful for all of the support from the leadership of Megan Ledin and Stacy Star. They are very helpful, understanding, and informative in helping to understand the mission of the Grand Foundation.

Thank you,
Ray Jennings, Chief

    <title>Horizons Specialized Services</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/58/Horizons-Specialized-Services</link>
    <description>On a daily basis, parents of a child with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) experience more hours of childcare, more work interruptions, more stressful events, and more fatigue. A study shows that parents of a child with IDD have comparable stress levels to soldiers in combat. While parenting comes with challenges, parenting a child with IDD comes with complex and multi-faceted challenges.

Parents of kids with IDD encounter extraordinary financial expenses and often sacrifice careers to tend to their children&amp;rsquo;s needs (resulting in a loss of income for the family). Parents face emotional challenges related to fear about their child&amp;rsquo;s future, guilt about their inability to help more, feelings of social isolation, exposure to criticism and judgment, and grief or sorrow from lost hopes and dreams of a &amp;ldquo;typical&amp;rdquo; life.

Across the US, we are experiencing the first generation of children with IDD being raised at home. In the past, children were sent to regional care centers. While this transition is good, we don&amp;rsquo;t have all the community supports in place yet for both parents and kids to thrive. More depleted in time and resources for self-care than parents of typical children, parents of kids with IDD have a greater need to refuel.

Grant Support from the Grand Foundation

With grant support from the Grand Foundation, some innovative thinking, and lots of help from volunteers, Horizons has created more ways to support families. In collaboration with the East Grand School District, the Middle Park High School Transition Program, YMCA of the Rockies at Snow Mountain Ranch, Northwest Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD), Northwest Colorado Center for Independence (NWCCI), and the Adaptive Fitness Group, Horizons is helping families find respite.

In late April, six young adults ages 15-21 participated in an Independent Overnight at Snow Mountain Ranch. East Grand School District provided transportation to the event; Snow Mountain Ranch provided transportation during the event. Caregiving and medical supervision was provided by staff from Horizons and Middle Park High School. During their stay, participants made dinner, went roller skating, did arts and crafts, ate breakfast at the Commons at Snow Mountain Ranch, and soaked up the breathtaking million dollar views.

Some participants never spent the night away from their parents before. Some parents never had a night to themselves before. Between the kids&amp;rsquo; constant smiles, easy interactions, and comfortable confidence, it was a tangible treat for them to relish in each other&amp;rsquo;s company and the luxury of a classy getaway. Just as palpable was the parents&amp;rsquo; gratitude for an evening out with friends, a sense of security and excitement for their child, topped by an uninterrupted night of sleep. &amp;ldquo;Having a night off,&amp;rdquo; said one parent, &amp;ldquo;is a dream come true!&amp;rdquo;

Prior to the overnight, the Adaptive Fitness Group organized a bowling respite night. Comprised of Horizons, NSCD, NWCCI, and the Transition Program, the group focuses on fitness activities for individuals with IDD while offering respite for caretakers. Deeming the event successful, the group hopes to sustain monthly activities so that parents can recharge more often&amp;mdash;enjoying some space and a moment to breathe.

    <title>National Sports Center for the Disabled</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/60/National-Sports-Center-for-the-Disabled</link>
    <description>The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) is proud to have had the support of the Grand Foundation since 2002. The NSCD has called Winter Park home since our organization was founded by Hal O&amp;rsquo;Leary in 1970, and the NSCD&amp;rsquo;s impact in the community has been deeply strengthened by the support of the Grand Foundation. The Grand Foundation has provided funding that has helped the NSCD to expand our Grand County programs to best meet the needs of the community. The Grand Foundation has also helped to subsidize the cost of our programs for Grand County residents and has provided generous scholarship funds for Grand County residents who need additional financial assistance to participate. This subsidy and scholarship support has made the NSCD&amp;rsquo;s programs accessible for many more community members with disabilities. The Grand Foundation&amp;rsquo;s support has also helped the NSCD to develop our Grand County programs to make Winter Park Resort a destination for families from across the country that include individuals with disabilities.

Grand Foundation has Significantly Increased Our Services

This past year alone, the Grand Foundation&amp;rsquo;s support has helped the NSCD to significantly increase our services for Grand County residents. The NSCD has added transportation services for Grand County residents so that we can drive participants between their homes and NSCD program locations. We have also expanded our therapeutic horse riding program from summertime-only to year-round so that our riders can improve their skills and experience the therapeutic benefits of horse riding during all seasons. The NSCD also started an after-school &amp;ldquo;Pony Club&amp;rdquo; for Grand County youth from East Grand School District, engaging participants on a weekly basis since last October. Additionally, we provided a series of free activities for teenage EGSD students with disabilities, starting last fall, which included tubing, biking, bowling, swimming, and snowboarding. All of this new community-oriented programming would not have been possible without the generosity and support of the Grand Foundation.

Family testimonials illustrate the direct impact that Grand Foundation support has had on NSCD participants:

&amp;ldquo;As a recipient of scholarship funding for my son, I&amp;#39;d like to express how very much it means to us. We are so incredibly grateful to be able to have the opportunity to have James take therapeutic horseback riding lessons. He loves it so much, and I live for the moments that I can see him feeling more confident and feeling special to have such a wonderful activity to attend. He now has something to look forward to outside of his school activities that makes him feel important and like he has a responsibility. He absolutely loves Yogi; he calls him &amp;quot;his horse.&amp;quot; He realizing if he sticks with something consistently that he can improve. He is benefiting greatly from utilizing his core to balance and experiencing different sensory stimulation that comes from seeing, hearing, smelling and touching the horses. Without the funding that we received, we certainly would NOT be able to afford taking James to his lessons. Funding for Asperger&amp;rsquo;s for anyone after their 5th birthday is very, very limited in Grand County. Thank you again for this amazing opportunity that you have provided to my son!&amp;rdquo; &amp;ndash;Jena A.

&amp;ldquo;To see my child happy and enjoying an activity like skiing was the best feeling. Before, I was not sure that my child could enjoy these activities due to his autism and speech delay, and now I see so many possibilities for him to enjoy things that he likes. Thank you to NSCD and to your wonderful staff for changing the lives of so many individuals like my son&amp;mdash;it means more than words can ever explain.&amp;rdquo; - Anonymous

&amp;ldquo;This is Max&amp;#39;s first year learning how to ride horses. From the beginning of his first lesson he could not stop smiling. He talks about the horses all week. In addition, he talks about the trainers and the volunteers (who are incredible).&amp;nbsp; He has learned the words trot, walk on and whoa!! He loves to trot. As a mother, I had no idea the program would work on so many different levels of Max&amp;#39;s needs. Like core work, letter recognition, manners, compassion, boundaries and focus. That&amp;#39;s just to name a few. I can&amp;#39;t wait until Fridays come and I can finally tell Max that yes, this is the day he gets to ride. To say the least, I am grateful for this opportunity to be able to offer this to my son through the NSCD scholarship funding.&amp;rdquo; &amp;ndash; Sally H.

&amp;ldquo;Being able to ski again for me was a very moving experience. I have always loved doing active things outdoors, and believing I was unable to ski because of MS was one of the things I missed the most. Being able to ski again in such a beautiful place literally brought tears to my eyes.&amp;rdquo; &amp;ndash; Betsy M.

    <title>Grand Beginnings</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/61/Grand-Beginnings</link>
    <description>Grand Foundation has been a long-time supporter of Grand Beginnings Professional Development Scholarship Program. Supporting working professionals with funding to gain the educational requirements needed to support Grand County&amp;rsquo;s youngest residents, the professional development funding has supported over 100 early childhood professionals and provided nearly 1000 hours of ongoing training.

Professional Development Scholarship

For one recipient a professional development scholarship was a stepping stone to a new career and business venture. Jessica Driver was able to complete college coursework, obtain her director qualification, and gain the necessary administrative skills to be a leader in the opening of Little Sprouts Learning Center in Summer 2015.&amp;nbsp; Filling a large need of early care and education in Grand County, Little Sprouts serves nearly 50 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years old. With capacity for only 40% of our young children in child care, the opening of Little Sprouts meant more working families had access to safe, healthy, and nurturing child care, allowing them to work. When asked about becoming the director of Little Sprouts Jessica explained &amp;ldquo;None of this would have been possible without professional development funding. Not only did Grand Beginnings help financially, they volunteered their time to help answer questions and support me throughout the entire process.&amp;rdquo;

Grand Foundation Helps Make It All Possible

The ongoing support of the Grand Foundation makes it possible for Grand Beginnings to support the early care and education professionals and their programs, which ensures young children in our communities have high quality early care and education environments with well-prepared professionals supporting their early learning, which in turn ensures they are ready for school!

    <title>Grand Lake Area Historical Society</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/62/Grand-Lake-Area-Historical-Society</link>
    <description>The Grand Foundation has been an essential supporter of the Grand Lake Area Historical Society and its many projects since 2006. We are an entirely volunteer organization, and are very, very appreciative of contributions from our extended community. We first received help from the Grand Foundation to install fire and security systems at our rustic Victorian Kauffman House Museum. Talk about essential! Later, we needed to authentically and expensively restore wall coverings in the parlor of the House, as that room&amp;rsquo;s walls had hurriedly been painted flat white when the structure was first opened to the public in 1973, and didn&amp;rsquo;t reflect the original Victorian design. Grand Foundation to the rescue again, and what a change in that room! Just as essential was the Grand Foundation grant in 2014 that updated our office computer and printer, as nothing happens in our organization without an efficient working office.

In 2009, we began the preservation and restoration of the Smith Eslick Cottage Court, which had to be moved to prevent its demolition. As the Cottage Court is the oldest known original-condition motor court, we recognized an opportunity to interpret rural mountain tourism following the advent of the automobile and many other important historical topics, and took on this substantial and necessary new project. The Grand Foundation funded the installation of authentic rolled roofing on the structure in 2012, which was essential protection for the Court in our mountain climate! The Grand Foundation has continued to support this project as we move through its various phases: matching a Master Planning grant from National Trust, providing installation of water at the site, and most recently the development of an exhibit interpreting the importance of water in the West at the Cairns#3 Ditch which fronts the Cottage Court property. Thank you!

    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/63/Fraser-Valley-Metropolitan-Recreation-District</link>
    <description>The mission of the Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District is to provide recreational experiences for our residents and guests through innovative, quality programs and facilities that promote health and wellness. Since 1996, the Grand Foundation has assisted the FVMRD in pursuit of that mission. Over the years, the Grand Foundation has provided grant funding to the FVMRD for multiple projects including; renovation of our Alex Newberry Little League field, which has since played host to the Colorado Little League State Tournament; assisting in outfitting the Grand Park Community Recreation Center with gymnastics equipment; providing funding for our guardian angel youth scholarship fund; and most recently, funding for the new Historic Playground at the Fraser Valley Sports Complex.

Over 8 Years of Fundraising with the Grand Foundation

For the past 8 years, the FVMRD and the Grand Foundation have partnered to host the Grand Classic Golf Tournament. This 2 day tournament at 2 mountain courses has raised $180,000 to support FVMRD youth programs.

The Grand Foundation is unique in its ability to make an impact in so many diverse areas of community needs. They have their finger on the pulse of the community and know how to direct resources to the most appropriate areas. Grand County is a better place because of the Grand Foundation!

    <title>Colorado Headwaters Land Trust</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/64/Colorado-Headwaters-Land-Trust</link>
    <description>Colorado Headwaters Land Trust is very thankful for the support the Grand Foundation has given us over the years. Recently, they have helped us with two critically important projects at the land trust. First, they helped us redesign our website (www.coloradoheadwaterslandtrust.org). With help from the local design company, Firebird, we were able to design a professional website that clients could visit to find information about the land trust, including an interactive map of all the conservation easements we hold in Grand County.

Before Grand Foundation enabled us to upgrade our website, we wouldn&amp;rsquo;t even tell people to visit our website for more information. Now, it is the primary way we educate interested clients about the land trust.

Over the past 2 years the Grand Foundation has also provided grant money to design and print 5 maps. We worked with a GIS specialist from Computer Terrain mapping in Boulder, CO to design the maps. 2 of these maps displayed our Colorado River Initiative, which is our primary project and where we are working hard to conserve land and water on the Colorado River with conservation easements. Another 2 maps displayed our Fraser River Initiative, a similar project where the land trust is working hard to conserve land and water on the Fraser River.

The final map was a map of Grand County that displayed all the conservation easements Colorado Headwaters Land Trust holds, as well as other public lands, towns, and natural features.

    <description>A patient, Lisa, called our health center in hopes of scheduling her annual exam. Lisa knew she was overdue for her exam, but also knew she could not afford the cost of her care. While speaking to our Granby Health Center staff Lisa learned that through generous philanthropic support of the Grand Foundation she could receive the preventative care she needed at a subsidized cost. Affordable reproductive health care options ensure that people in need, like Lisa, are not forced to choose between receiving regular health care and other basic human needs such as housing or food.

    <title>Grand Huts Association</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/66/Grand-Huts-Association</link>
    <description>A group of local Fraser Valley backcountry enthusiasts recognized the importance of the Second Creek Cabin and formed a nonprofit organization, Grand Huts Association, to support the development of backcountry huts in Grand County.

Creating Huts from Berthoud Pass to Grand Lake

GHA&amp;rsquo;s goal is to create an eco-friendly hut system in Grand County Colorado that will stretch from Berthoud Pass to Grand Lake. The hut system will preserve the environment while sustaining activities in the backcountry. GHA will work to re-open public use cabins already in existence on public and private lands and build new structures, where appropriate, to assist in managing intense use of fragile ecosystems.

The Broom Hut, originally called the Second Creek Hut, in the Second Creek Basin on the west side of Berthoud Pass, was the first project completed by GHA. Ease of access to this hut and relative safety from avalanches makes for excellent backcountry recreation opportunities. The support of the Grand Foundation made the Broome Hut a reality.

    <description>Teaming up with the Grand Foundation has not only contributed to the growth of our youth entities but has also bonded the staffs of both nonprofits.

The Grand Foundation has donated over the years to our Blues in the School program (BITS) and Future of The Blues &amp;ndash; youth stage at our &amp;ldquo;Blues From The Top&amp;rdquo; festivals. These donations have ensured the continuation of providing music to kids not only here in Grand County but also throughout the US.

Megan Ledin and her entire staff have also supported the &amp;ldquo;Blues From The Top&amp;rdquo; by all volunteering for a decade or more to help make this festival a success.

We are forever grateful for the funds, grants and support of the Grand Foundation but also the friendship that they have bestowed upon the Grand County Blues Society &amp;ndash; Thank You!

    <title>Shining Stars Foundation</title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/68/Shining-Stars-Foundation</link>
    <description>The Grand Foundation generously supports the Grand County Family Adventure which is a camp for children with cancer or a life-threatening disease and their families at no cost to the families. The Shining Stars Foundation brings 250 Stars and family members to Winter Park each year for 4 days of fun and relaxation in Grand County each year in July. &amp;nbsp;For many families, due to the financial and emotional stress of their child&amp;rsquo;s illness, this is the only family vacation they can look forward to every year. The program forges strong bonds within families, while introducing them to a much needed network of other families who face similar challenges, creating lasting relationships. Families are given the chance to escape their troubles and enjoy a week together in the beauty of the High Rockies region of Colorado. Activities include boating, hiking, rafting, horseback riding, fishing, a day at Winter Park Resort, a free outdoor concert, and much more. This program has become one of our largest, as we cater to 250+ children and family members from Grand County, the state of Colorado and across the country. The Grand Foundation is one of the wonderful organizations in our valley that has supported this camp for many years. We would be unable to have this event without the support of caring organizations such as the Grand Foundation.

Shining Star Testimonial

&amp;ldquo; Thank You!!! We absolutely love Winter Park, all the activities and the chance to just have fun with other families who have endured similar journeys. I can only imagine the orchestration needed to make such a week come together. I&amp;#39;m so humbled and grateful for all the time, activities and donation of property and food that is put into this. What really strikes me most is how many people just step forward to help a group of strangers and treat us like we are incredibly important. I can&amp;#39;t really put into words what that does for a mending heart - it shines light when there has been a lot of darkness and gives us all the ability to just forget what &amp;lsquo;real life&amp;rsquo; looks like for a while. This is a remarkable gift - the ability to just forget and have fun is incredible. So from everyone in our family, thank you for this amazing gift! May God bless you all.&amp;rdquo; &amp;ndash; Sherman family

    <title>Youth Theatre at Rocky Mountain Repertory </title>
    <link>https://grandfoundation.dnn4less.net/News/ID/69/Youth-Theatre-at-Rocky-Mountain-Repertory</link>
    <description>Each year, the Youth Theatre Program at Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre is fortunate to receive a grant from The Grand Foundation. Our goal is to give the youth of Grand County the opportunity to explore and participate in the theatre arts at a professional theater. Without the help of the Grand Foundation, this goal would not be possible. However, the impact of the Foundation&amp;rsquo;s support goes beyond just that simple goal. Not only have our students been introduced to and continue to develop theatre performance skills, through their time in the program they also develop critical life skills such as an increase in self-confidence, critical and creative thought, the ability to navigate various interpersonal relationships, collaboration and problem-solving skills, and are encouraged to explore and develop their growing sense of identity and self-expression.

In addition to providing support directly to our students, the financial support we receive from The Grand Foundation has allowed us to create a dedicated Youth Theatre Staff, consisting of professional theatre artists and educators from around the country.

An Integral Part of the Youth Theatre Program

The Grand Foundation has been an integral part of the Youth Theatre Program at RMRT. Without their support each year, we would not be able to provide the experience of creating and performing live theatre to nearly as many Grand County youth as we can with their help. They have supported our efforts to grow the number of children that we are able to educate, as well as unprecedented expansion of staff, curriculum, and resources. Their commitment to our program has contributed to the development of thousands of children and we are infinitely grateful for all that they do for our program and for our children.
